Randomized, Double-Blind Intervention Study: Postbiotic in Older Adults—Bowel Function and Inflammation

Last updated:

A randomized, double-blind intervention study tested a postbiotic of inactivated bacterial cells in 48 institutionalized older adults over eight weeks. Supplementation improved bowel function and was accompanied by changes in inflammatory markers and improvements in red blood cell parameters. A more favorable gut microbiota profile was also observed.

What the Research Says

Daily gastrointestinal manifestations, bowel movements and laxative use were recorded alongside pre- and post-intervention hematological and clinical biochemical assessments. The authors describe an integrated microbiota-mediated mechanism supporting gut and systemic health.
