How International Health Research came about

It began with a mismatch.

International Health Research Ltd was founded by Philippe Wagner. The trigger was a mismatch that does not resolve itself: far more papers on natural substances appear than any practice can read — and a large part of them stand side by side, unconnected. The experience with patients is there. What is missing is orderly access to what has long been studied internationally.

That became the company's mission: to collect research, organise it and make it traceable to the original source — without pre-empting the judgement that belongs in the hands of the practitioner. The company's own study database now covers 149 substances and 71 therapies — from turmeric to vitamin D, omega-3 and adaptogens to acupuncture, sauna and fasting — with 227 114 papers evaluated. It keeps growing every day.

The people behind it

Founded by Philippe Wagner, run together with Emilio Sallustio.

Philippe Wagner, founder of International Health Research

More than thirty years of international experience across industries and cultures. German and English, working between Europe and South Africa.

Alongside International Health Research he runs Built4More, where he works with executives and founders on attitude and self-image.

What distinguishes him in that work also shapes what is created here: calm, clear, without embellishment. Not talking behaviour up, but looking at what is actually the case — and naming what one sees, even when it is uncomfortable.

Applied to a research platform, that means: no promises of effect, no selection by desired result, every statement traceable to the paper it comes from. His path led through decisions under pressure and periods of uncertainty. From that comes the conviction that carries this company: people should be able to decide with clarity and calm — and for that they need reliable foundations, not more noise.

International Health Research is deliberately kept small. Specialised systems screen the world literature; grading and checking are done editorially. Every figure on these pages comes from the company's own study database and is updated with it. What is not established is stated as an open question — not as an insinuation.

Emilio Sallustio, Managing Partner of International Health Research

Managing Partner. Years in the dietary-supplement market, before that a good twenty years in Swiss finance. German, Italian and English, at home in Switzerland.

In 2020 he founded Micellia GmbH in Zug and brought it to market: plant-based, water-soluble dietary supplements made in Switzerland.

From 1990 to 2011 he worked in Swiss finance, mostly on the client side. He began at Credit Suisse, then spent eight years at Bank Julius Baer, where he built up and led the advisory desk, ran local sales and was most recently a relationship manager in private banking. In 1995 he was granted signing authority, in 1998 he became vice director. He spent his last years in finance on the risk side, at two asset managers.

With Micellia he built up the sales organisation, brought the products in front of therapists and trade-fair visitors, and often heard for himself the question International Health Research answers: a practitioner or physician who wants to know what the evidence on a substance really supports. He knows these questions because he has answered them at the table.

What he brings fits what this company rests on: every statement traceable to its source, limits first, no promises of cure. That is the mindset of a risk manager, and it is needed in the room when a study looks better than it is. At the same time International Health Research has to reach practitioners, and that is relationship work. A partner who keeps in touch with therapists in the morning and checks the figures in the afternoon is worth more here than a specialist in one of the two.
